Corry Baptist Church

Corry Baptist Church is:

Independent

What do we mean by "independent?" By that, we mean that we are a local, autonomous church, answerable to no governing ecclesiastical body here on Earth.

What do we mean by autonomous, or the autonomy of the local church? That answer has three parts:

  • Each individual church governs itself.
  • Each individual church is independent.
  • Each church is governed by its congregation.

Fundamental

Now, we've all heard of "fundamental" or "fundamentalist" churches, and if you ask 100 different members of these churches to define these terms, you might get 100 different answers. We hold unashamedly to certain doctrines and and convictions that we believe are characteristic of those who are born again and desire God's best for their life.  Some of these fundamental doctrines and convictions are:

  • The Blood of Christ, its perfection and requirement for salvation.
  • The Book, the old inerrant, infallible King James Bible.
  • The Birth of Jesus Christ by Mary, a virgin.
  • The Bodily resurrection of Jesus Christ.
  • The Blessed hope of the imminent and pre-millennial return of Jesus Christ for his church.

Bible Believing

We only use the King James Bible in all teaching and preaching for three reasons:

  • It has over three hundred and fifty years of success.  Every major revival in the English-speaking world has come through the use of the King James Version.  We want a Book with a proven testimony.
  • It is the most accurate translation.
  • It avoids confusion in study.

Soul-Winning

1 Peter 3:15 But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts: and be ready always to give an answer to every man that asketh you a reason of the hope that is in you with meekness and fear:

Proverbs 11:30  The fruit of the righteous is a tree of life; and he that winneth souls is wise.

John 4:36 And he that reapeth receiveth wages, and gathereth fruit unto life eternal: that both he that soweth and he that reapeth may rejoice together.

John 15:8 Herein is my Father glorified, that ye bear much fruit; so shall ye be my disciples.

Baptist

We hold to the historical Baptist position as to the Church and church polity.  We do not claim that the Baptists are the only ones to hold any truth; but we do believe that a church that holds to the historic Baptist position is the local church closest to the pattern of New Testament churches.  These distinctives are:

  • The Bible is our only rule for doctrine and duty
  • A regenerate church membership
  • Baptism of believers by immersion
  • Priesthood of the believer and soul liberty
  • Autonomy of the local church
  • Two ordinances (baptism and the Lord's Supper)
  • Eternal security of the believer
  • Separation of Church and State
